
Arts Stream
The G.C.E. Advanced Level Arts stream at Sri Gnanawasa Maha Vidyalaya offers a comprehensive and structured curriculum designed to cultivate academic excellence, cultural awareness, and intellectual inquiry. Students select 3 subjects across three designated subject groups, preparing them for university admission and future careers in education, law, civil administration, journalism, social policy, and creative industries.
Stream Subjects

Sinhala
Advanced study of Sinhala language, classical and modern Sinhala literature, grammar, prosody, and critical appreciation.
Home Economics
Practical and theoretical study of nutrition and food science, household resource management, textiles, and human development.
In-depth understanding of geographical environments, spatial analysis, and historical national and regional evolutions.
Geography
Exploration of physical geography, geomorphology, climate systems, human settlement, practical cartography, and GIS applications.
History of Sri Lanka
Comprehensive study of Sri Lanka's ancient hydraulic civilization, medieval kingdoms, colonial administration, and modern constitutional era.
History of India
Historical analysis of the Indus Valley civilization, Maurya and Gupta golden eras, Mughal empire, colonial impact, and modern South Asian history.
Critical engagement with contemporary communication, political structures, governance, ethics, and Buddhist heritage.
Communication & Media Studies
Study of communication theories, news writing, television and radio broadcasting, digital media, media ethics, and societal influence.
Political Science

Buddhist Civilization
Exploration of Buddhist philosophical thought, ethics, monastic culture, art and architecture, and Buddhist history across Asia.
Subject Selection Guidelines (G.C.E. Advanced Level)
Students enrolling in the Arts stream must select 3 subjects in accordance with the regulations specified by the Ministry of Education and the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka. Subject combinations should adhere to university admission prerequisites for desired degree programs.
